Kate Nicoll retrained as a gardener in 2000 after a 15-year career in broadcasting at the BBC as a journalist. After 7 years as a Head Gardener on a private estate in Oxfordshire and running her own bulb nursery and cut flower business she joined the National Trust (NT) as the Walled Gardener at Attingham Park in Shropshire in 2009, restoring an 18th Century Kitchen Garden to full production. In 2015 she moved to NT Headquarters to run their Heritage Horticulture Program for 700 garden staff and 20 apprentices. She delivered 50 practical workshops each year, rotating around their 250 gardens in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
